Professional Counseling, M.A.Prof.Couns.

The Master of Arts in Professional Counseling degree consists of 60 credit hours of course work and a minimum of 350 hours of practicum experience. The courses and practicum hours meet eligibility requirements for application for the Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) credential. The awarding of the degree does not, however, guarantee the granting of the license, which is under the control of the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors. Current and prospective students seeking information concerning the mental health counseling graduate program should consult the Department of Education for all applicable policies.

Required Courses


Online OR Study Abroad Options (12 Hours)


Students are required to complete all four online courses, OR a combination of online and study abroad courses. Participation in study abroad requires enrolling in six hours and may be taken twice. Students should work with their advisor to select the best combination of courses.

Optional Marriage & Family Therapy Concentration (75 Total Hours)


Students may choose an optional concentration in Marriage & Family Therapy for an additional 15 hours. To complete the concentration in Marriage & Family Therapy, students must complete the courses below:
