Associate Degree Requirements


Associate Degree Requirements 

(effective Fall 2025)

To qualify for an associate degree (A.A.) from Texas Wesleyan University, undergraduate students must complete the following requirements:

  • A minimum of 60 hours and a minimum of 120 grade points for a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 on all college work attempted and completed are required for all degrees granted by the University. A higher number of hours may be required for certain degrees.
  • A minimum of 30 hours or 50% of the credit hours (whichever is greater) of a degree must be earned at Texas Wesleyan including a minimum of 9 credit hours in the major.
  • A major in a department or school must be completed with a minimum grade point average of 2.0. Certain departments may require a higher grade point average. Specific requirementsfor a grade point average will be discussed in the content of the major program. A student should consult with their major advisor regarding specific requirements for that major.
  • A student seeking an associate degree may not have multiple majors or a minor. Additionally, a student may not receive a second associate degree. These limitations do not preclude multiple majors or minors if the student persists to a subsequent bachelor’s degree.
  • An associate degree seeking student must declare a specific major by the time they apply for an associate degree.
  • Basic to success in any academic program is skill in written communication. The student must exhibit a capability in writing as a requirement of any course. Any instructor in any course may require a student who lacks this skill to seek assistance through the Academic SuccessCenter in the West Library.
  • All University requirements must be completed.
  • An application for graduation must be completed and submitted to the Office of Student Records no later than census day in the term of graduation.
  • Upon receiving a student’s graduation application, the Office of Student Records will process and certify a final official degree audit.
  • All financial obligations to the University incurred by each graduating senior must be met beforethe degree will be conferred.

Major Requirements

  • A major program within an associate degree is composed of a minimum of 18 semester hours. 
  • For the associate degree, no courses above the 2000 level may count toward graduation.
  • Courses used for the GEC may not count towards fulfilling major requirements. 

The following are the basic requirements for the associate’s degree offered at Texas Wesleyan University:
