EDU 4396 - Residency I

This course is completed prior to Teacher Residency II in the final year of the professional development program requiredfor Texas teacher certification. Throughout the placement, students will engage in an examination and analysis of teachingpractices and professional expectations. The student must demonstrate proficiency in effective instructional design anddelivery, classroom management, professional communication, and ongoing professional development. At the end of theTeacher Residency I semester, the teacher resident, host teacher, campus administrator, and university supervisorparticipate in a four‐way formative conference to evaluate the teacher resident’s progress toward meeting the residencyrequirements as determined by the Texas Education Agency. The teacher resident must receive recommendations fromthe host teacher, campus administrator, and university supervisor to successfully complete this course and continue toTeacher Residency II. The recommendations will be noted on the formative evaluation and will be reflected in the gradeassignments (grades of B or higher indicate recommendation; lower grades indicate the recommendation was notgranted). The residency documents, including the formative assessment with grades noted by the host teacher, campusadministrator, and university supervisor, are reviewed by the Texas Wesleyan Director of Field Experience, who makes the final grade assignment
